Some wines are just not that highly regarded. And you know what? That’s okay. You can still enjoy them all you want. Or maybe I’m just saying that because I love white lambrusco so very much.

It’s a very summery wine. It’s not complicated, it’s sweet, it’s fizzy. Chop up some strawberries and throw them in - it’s even better. It’s dessert in a glass, or brunch in a glass. It’s definitely happiness in a glass. And it even pairs well with chocolate, from high end truffles to mini Heath bars. (Ahem.)
The lambrusco of choice among my cohort is Le Grotte Lambrusco dell’Emilia Bianco. I believe that in the U.S. it’s only available at Trader Joe’s, and it’s about $4. The price helps the love affair.
And, honestly, though Lambrusco is seen as fairly downmarket in this country, it’s a perfectly respectable tipple in Italy, and the quality bottles are getting more shelf space in the U.S. all the time. Here are some Food & Wine picks, in red and white, at about $15 a bottle.
