Sequim has a wine bar?

Damiana’s Best Cellars in Sequim, Washington was not what I was expecting as I walked through the cellar door.  I thought that I was going to another wine shop from back in time and was returned to the future when I met Damiana and her wines.  The selection there was not too big and not too small.  I found myself wanting to take a closer look the longer I stayed as there is definitely a lot to choose from between region and price point.

The cellar doubles as a wine bar serving food and wine from noon until mid evening (See www.damianascellars.com for more information).  I was thinking rose and as I talked to Damiana my thoughts wandered as they usually do to something darker.  The Lange pinot noir from Oregon’s Willamette Valley was my choice before she told me about Merry Cellars’ Crimson Red Wine from Pullman, Washington the home of the Washington State Cougars.  After hearing the words, “this is my favorite wine” I was sold… $26

(2 hours later) I am continually pouring another glass of the Merry Cellars ”Crimson” Red Wine and it has really nice cocoa toast with dark plum and cassis fruit held together with strong acid and subtle tannins - I like a lot!
