When I was 14, two grape-related events occurred: my parents won a year’s supply of wine, and my grandparents moved to Sonoma, California. Thus began an education that’s served me well in my career as a food writer - as we all know, the two go together rather well. Some of my favorite wines are white Burgundy (learning there was such a thing was a surprise, and a happy revelation) and the less-sweet bottles of Sicilian Grillo, which I first discovered at LA’s Pizzeria Mozza: the bright wine goes so well with the perfectly salty offerings there. But as much as I love all things Italian, my dream wine vacation would be vineyard hopping in France, land of the classics. Until then, I’m just happy to wander the aisles of L.A.’s great wine shops.
